jena_practice:Movement, Sound, and the Sacred Technologies of Ancestry

jena_practice is an evolving artistic and spiritual methodology that explores movement and sound as ancestral technologies. Rooted in Zimbabwean animist traditions, it merges the body, rhythm, and voice into a practice of remembrance and transformation.  jena_practice is both a return to ancestral wisdom and a portal to new ways of being.

Purity, Spirit, and Zimbabwean Ancestral Philosophy

In Shona cosmology, Jena signifies whiteness—not as a racial identity, but as a state of purity, clarity, and illumination. It is the presence of ancestral wisdom (Vadzimu), the force that binds past, present, and future through rhythm, dance, and voice. In jena_practice, movement and sound are not just expressions but technologies of connection—tools to invoke the unseen, transmit memory, and channel the intelligence of the spiritual realm. This practice aligns with Zimbabwean philosophies of hunhu (collective humanity) and kushopera (spiritual mediation), where sound and movement serve as bridges between the earthly and the divine.
